Misappropriation
A long term paralegal with a law firm that represented a large manufacturing company during years of litigation left the firm and started her own business as a consultant to the many opposing parties involved in the litigation against her previous client. She used documents and facts gathered from previous employer in new litigation. Although a preservation request and injunction were filed, she failed to provide computers and data, claiming that it was all destroyed, and even produced a family laptop instead of her work one. Our examination found emails referencing confidential documents stored on a database server owned and used by the paralegal. Data was recovered, the judge found her in contempt and awarded a judgment in our client's favor.
